Dear Zarifmo/Eve,
The Sri Lankan Forces have intensified attacks on the ‘Safe Zone’ over this weekend. On Saturday, 25 April, the Sri Lankan military ran 25 sorties and dropped more than 30 bombs on the ‘Safe Zone’ killing over 170 people, including more than 40 children, injuring over 190 others.
Today, Sunday 26 April, the Sri Lankan Army ran a further 39 sorties and bombed several areas in the ‘Safe Zone’ killing hundreds of people, we are yet to have the exact figures.
The UN estimates more than 6,400 people have died in the last 3 months and a third or more were killed in the last 7 days, many hundreds of children are included in these figures. Over 13,000 people were injured during this period, some fatally.
Credible information has emerged indicating that the Sri Lankan forces are preparing for a final onslaught on the ‘Safe Zone’ within the next few hours creating further carnage in what has already been called the “toughest humanitarian crisis in the world at the moment”, by U.N. spokesman, Gordon Weiss.
