From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
In front of 10 Downing Street
Dear Sir/Madam,
It is with great sadness that the British Tamil Forum invites you to attend the Launch Event of this campaign to free the Tamils from the camps in Sri Lanka:
• More than 280,000 Tamil civilians – including an estimated 50,000 children – are being held in cramped and squalid camps in the north of Sri Lanka – Amnesty International
• Sri Lankan government has unlawfully detained Tamil civilians in camps in Northern Sri Lanka – Human Rights Watch
• Deplorable death tolls in these camps arising from malnutrition, widespread disease and insufficient medical facilities. Tamil death toll ‘is 1,400 a week’– The Times UK
• Sri Lanka refuses to allow free access to aid agencies, international monitors and media.
• UN has expressed deep concern about the permanent nature of shelters being put up in the camps
• US officials have called for civilians to be released.
“Unlock the Concentration Camps in Sri Lanka” is a continuous awareness campaign until all 280,000 illegally detained people (IDPs) are freed to return to their own homes.
Despite the short notice, we hope that you will be able to attend this event and give it the due coverage this humanitarian effort warrants.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like any further details.
Thank you,
BTF Media Team
